Reiki Healing: What It Is & What to Expect
Reiki: Origins, Energy, and Science
Since then, Reiki has grown in popularity as a complementary therapy in healthcare settings worldwide and is even being taught in some post-secondary institutions.
Understanding Reiki Energy
Reiki energy is often compared to forces we already accept but cannot see, such as:
- Gravity – invisible, but its effects are undeniable.
- Sound frequencies beyond our hearing range – inaudible, yet real and measurable.
- Light waves outside the visible spectrum – unseen, yet they influence the world around us.
In the same way, Reiki is a subtle energy. It is not visible to the naked eye, yet many people experience it as calming, balancing, or healing when it is flowing well — and as imbalance or discomfort when it is disrupted. Like faith or intuition, Reiki invites us to tune into a natural, supportive energy that works beneath the surface, guiding wellness and harmony from within.
The Clinical Science of Reiki
Reiki is considered a complementary therapy that involves channeling universal life force energy through the practitioner’s hands to encourage healing and well-being.
Although the exact mechanisms remain under study, researchers propose several possible explanations:
- Biofield Concept: The body is thought to be surrounded by a field of energy and information, sometimes described as electromagnetic in nature, which may influence biological functions.
- Quantum Physics: Some theories suggest Reiki energy may operate at a quantum level, involving interactions such as entanglement and coherence.
- Biological Effects: Research indicates Reiki may affect cellular communication, gene expression, and protein synthesis through subtle energetic interactions.

What the Research Says
While Reiki is gentle and non-invasive, its benefits are being recognized in evidence-based research.
Stress Reduction & Relaxation: Peer-reviewed studies show Reiki significantly lowers stress, anxiety, and improves mood.
Pain Management: Hospitals and cancer centers have integrated Reiki sessions to support patients in reducing pain and improving quality of life.
Emotional Well-Being: Research demonstrates Reiki’s ability to support individuals experiencing grief, trauma, and life transitions.
Holistic Integration: Reiki is increasingly recommended alongside traditional therapies, bridging science and spirituality.
What to Expect in a Reiki Session
Every Reiki session is a unique experience, but here’s a glimpse of what you can expect when working with me:
Welcoming Space
Whether in my home studio or online, sessions are designed to be safe, private, and comfortable.
Intention Setting
We begin with a conversation about your needs, challenges, or goals, aligning the session to your intentions.
The Session Itself
You remain fully clothed, either seated or lying on a Reiki table. Gentle, light touch or hands hovering just above the body allows energy to flow.
Deep Relaxation
Many clients describe a sense of warmth, peace, or lightness. Some even fall into a meditative sleep-like state.
The Essence of My Reiki Practice
Reiki is practiced in many ways. My approach is simple, grounded, and deeply reverent.
I bring nearly twenty years of experience as a nurse together with my training in Usui Holy Fire® III Reiki. I understand the body. I respect science. And I trust the wisdom of Spirit.
During our session, I serve as a steady energetic and spiritual presence. I invite the Holy Fire (Spirit), Jesus, and the angels to guide the work, trusting that what unfolds is exactly what your system is ready to receive. The energy moves where it is needed — whether through gentle touch or at a distance. While some Reiki practitioners are drawn to using tools such as crystals, cards, or pendulums, my approach remains simple and Spirit-led — guided entirely by faith, intuition, and the healing wisdom that flows through the energy itself. The intention is simple: to support balance, peace, and the body’s natural movement toward wholeness.
Support for every stage of life’s journey.
Who Benefits from Reiki?
Reiki is for everyone — no matter your age, background, or life situation. Because it is gentle, non-invasive, and adaptable, it can meet you exactly where you are. Many people seek Reiki when they feel out of balance, overwhelmed, or simply in need of deeper restoration. It may be especially supportive for:
- Individuals managing stress, burnout, or anxiety – offering calm and grounding during demanding times.
- Caregivers seeking renewal and balance – creating space to replenish energy while continuing to care for others.
- Those navigating grief, loss, or life transitions – providing comfort and steadiness through moments of change.
- People living with chronic pain or illness – easing tension, encouraging relaxation, and supporting overall well-being alongside medical care.
- Helping professionals – therapists, nurses, teachers, and others who benefit from a practice that nurtures their own resilience as they support others.
- Anyone seeking relaxation, clarity, or spiritual connection – for those who simply wish to feel lighter, clearer, and more aligned.
What Reiki Is Not
Reiki is a complementary therapy, not a replacement for medical treatment. It does not diagnose or prescribe, but works alongside your existing health practices to restore balance and well-being.

My Approach to Reiki
I blend over 20 years of nursing experience with my training as a Usui Holy Fire III Reiki Master-Teacher, creating a unique balance of compassion, scientific understanding, and spiritual guidance.
Reiki, for me, is not simply about energy—it’s about accountability, empowerment, and transformation. My role is to hold space for you, offer insights from both medical and holistic perspectives, and guide you toward greater wholeness.
Unlike “quick-fix” approaches, my sessions honor your journey at its natural pace. The integration of nursing expertise ensures that each session is grounded in professional care, while Reiki opens the door to deeper healing of mind, body, and soul.
